The Turnpike Gallery regularly hosts free drop-in art & craft workshops for families inspired by our exhibitions programme. Come along to meet an artist and try new creative activities inspired by our local heritage and environment. Suitable for families with children aged 5+.

Saturday Family Workshops

Saturday 8 June 11am-1pm: Natural Dye Painting

Experiment by painting with dyes made from fruits, vegetables and spices and learn about how these natural pigments are made.

Saturday 22 June 11am-1pm: Fruit & veggie prints

Printmaking with the natural patterns found in fruit and veg - the circular spread of lines from the mushroom, the cobbles effect of a corn on the cob, the tree shape provided by cauliflower and the shape of a flower cut in half!

Saturday 13th July 11am-1pm: Drawing seeds on the wind

Join artist Claire Weetman to create drawings inspired by the movement of the wind and the seeds and plants that float along on the breeze.

Saturday 27th July 11am-1pm: Wire carbon mono-prints

Use wire to explore and record lines/shapes from the exhibition, and create carbon mono-prints of the shaped wire with artist David Bixter.

Saturday 3rd August 2pm-5pm (part of Leigh Feast on the Civic Square)

Work together with Claire and other families on a large scale drawing inspired by the movement and shapes of the Leigh Feast.

Saturday 10th August 11am-1pm: Shadow drawings

Enter a space filled with coloured lights and make drawings using the shadows that you create.

Saturday 24th August 11am-1pm: Collaborative kaleidoscopic drawings

Working collaboratively on a large-scale drawing participants will contribute to a kaleidoscopic digital drawing and explore reflections in smaller, cut-away sections of the larger drawing.

All workshops are suitable for families with children aged 5+, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All sessions are drop-in, no need to book. If the session is full you may be asked to wait until a space becomes available.
